You need to add the databases to the backup task inside the plan. Right-lock
the backup task, select
"Edit..." and in the "Databases:" drop.down you select the databases you wan
t to include.

Add a "Maintenance Cleanup Task" to the plan.

Thank you for your advice.
I find that the reason why I am not able to add more databases in the task
is because I use SA in my workstation while Windows Authentication is used
at the server side. In this way, I change the connection from Windows
Authentication to SQL Authentication for both local and target servers and I
am able to do it on my workstation. I have changed the ownership of the
jobs to SA (Instead of Administrator).
I would like to seek your advice
1) Is it possible to change the ownership of the "Database Maintenance Plan"
from Administrator to SA ?
2) Is it necessary to add the "Cleanup Task" for the daily transaction log
maintenance plan so that old transaction log backup will be deleted ?
3) Which step should be performed first - Cleanup Task or Backup Task ?
Should the constraint be success or finish ?
4) Is it necessary to add another task to delete old reports in the "Weekly
Maintenance Plan" so that the logging will be deleted ?
Thanks

I would guess that you would change the owner of the job. To the best of my
knowledge, a maint plan
doesn't have an owner, the job does. Not sure, though.

Yes, if you want the old backup files to be removed and if you don't remove
them some other way.

This is really your decision. I prefer to do the backup first, and if it fai
ls I don't remove old
backups.

How to import mysql data into SQL Server 2000 ?
I have a *.sql backup file, is there any method to import the backup into
SQL Server 2000 ? I cannot open it in the SQL Query Analyzer.
Thanks a lot !
Hi,
That is actually a dump file of MYSQL. You cant use that in SQL Server
directly. Ways to transfer data from MYSQL to SQL server is given below:-
1. DTS
2. Generated comma seperated text file in MYSQL and use BCP IN / to load it.
Better and easiest option is to use DTS to copy data between

Or you can do something like this, with is not the best solution:
DECLARE @.name SYSNAME
DECLARE rs CURSOR
READ_ONLY
FOR SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
OPEN rs
FETCH NEXT FROM rs INTO @.name
WHILE (@.@.fetch_status <> -1)
BEGIN
IF (@.@.fetch_status <> -2)
BEGIN
-- find your tables you need
IF @.name = 'Table1'
BEGIN
PRINT @.name
DELETE
FROM OPENQUERY([ServerName], 'SELECT * FROM
DevelopDatabase.dbo.Table1')
INSERT INTO OPENQUERY([ServerName], 'SELECT * FROM
DevelopDatabase.dbo.Table1')
SELECT * FROM TABLE1
END
END
FETCH NEXT FROM rs INTO @.name
END
CLOSE rs
DEALLOCATE rs
GO
But before that you have to add linked server and linked server login

How to identify a database snapshot?
Hello,
Because you can not backup a database snapshot, I'm curious to as how you identify the database as a snapshot? I need to add an exclusion to my backup scripts so that they don't attempt to backup a snapshot.
Thanks
select source_database_id from sys.databases
if source_database_id is null for a database then it is not a snapshot.
if it is not null, then the database is a snapshot and the source_database_id refers to the database from which the snapshot was created.
Also take a look at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178534.aspx
How to identify 2005 vs 2000 backups
database. Is there some identifier bytes I can look at to determine the
correct version.
I have no problem writing a utility to scan a backup file for the correct
info (if it is necessary)
TIA
RobOn my 2000 server:
restore headeronly
from disk = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$SQL2000\BACKUP\Northwind.bak'
results:
SoftwareVersionMajor = 8
SoftwareVersionMinor = 0
SoftwareVersionBuild = 2039
Same in 2005

how to hook into sql server with vbscript or C# ?
- Copy backup files down from a network share, into the data directory of my
local sql 2005 instance
- perform a restore using the files copied from above
- Execute a dts package
More info:
Our databases are scripted and exist on the typical development, and testing
enviroments. So as I get ready to start a new application, I want my local
sql instance to be updated based on structure changes as well as data. So I
have to apply the changes from the scripted sources and pull over the data.
I would naturally like to automate this.
ideas / suggestions welcomeHello bitshift,
Three thoughts:
a. Use Visual Studio Team Edition for the Database Developer (aka Data Dude)
since it has this "in the box"
b. Look at tools like Red-Gate's SqlCompare.
c. If you insist on rolling your own (which is doable, but a lot of work),
investigate the Server Management Objects namespace in BOL (see "Getting
Started in SMO").
Thanks!

this isn't in my MSDN subscription except as a trial; do you know if
there's any way to get hold of it for less than the $3700 or so Programmer's
Paradise wants ?
is it an add-on that I could put on top of VS2005 or a completely separate
product? how does it compare to the Redgate tools ? where there's a
comparision of course ..|||Are you trying to do a custom log shipping? If you are, check out my blog
entry (this of course doesnt include the DTS portion) ;-)
