how to insert images...

Complete SQL newbie here.......running SQL 2k.
I created a datatype called 'Picture' of type Image using Enterprise
Manager's Design Table function.
My question, how can I specify what the image is for a given table
row/entry? For text data types I can just type in what I want the
value to be.
Most answers I've seen talk about running scripts to do inserts.
There's got to be a drag 'n drop or File/Open type way of doing this.
I mean I remember watching people do this with a database app on a
NextStation way back when (drag n drop).....you'd think the mighty
SQL Server 2000 would have similiar abilities.
Any help appreciated.
J.Sorry, SQL Server isn't a WYSIWYG editor, and there is no drag 'n' drop
interface.
In most situations, it's probably not a good idea to store an image in your

|||Seems you are running either MSDE (Desktop Engine) or Personal Editions. These are constrained to 8
concurrent queries, since they are basically free software. If you want to get rid of the
constraint, buy either Workgroup Edition, Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition.

throttling.

We have the standard edition, I should reinstall it with the standard edition.
Is there anything I should do before uninstalling the personnal edition et
reinstalling with the Standard edition?

How to improve performance of Reports?

I HAVE REPORT WITH SEVERAL GROUPS AND FIELDS
ITS RUNNING VERY SLOW
I AM EXTRACTING EVERYTHING FROM 1 TABLE ONLY
HOW CAN I IMPROVE PERFORMANCE OF THE REPORT
CAN ANYONE FROM MICROSOFT LET ME KNOW ALL PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION TIPS AND TECHNIQUES FOR THIS TOOLYou'll have to be more specific:
1. How long does it take to get the data from the SELECT statement?
2. How long does it take to export the data as XML (RDL processing, from what I understand)?
3. What is the final output format? We are currently have performance problems with large PDF
reports.
I would love to see some tips for performance as well!

How to implement incremental load in fact tables.

Hi all,

i have a fact table which loads through package,when

i m trying to load this table by running the package,i m truncating the

fact table and loading the fresh data,instaed of this without

truncating the fact table i have to implement the incremental logic in

this.

For this i can use SCD or Conditional split,but problem

here is i have many source tables to load this fact table,so its

very difficult to trace the changes in different source tables.

can any one help me out in this?You should stage all of your source tables along with the current load date. That way, when you select from your source staging tables, you can retrieve the data based on that date field, thereby only picking up the new/changed records.

How to identify which version we have?

How do I tell if I am running SQL2K Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition? We have a 2-node cluster. Does that imply Enterprise Edition, or could Standard do that as well? Thanks for any info.

If it's SQL 2000, only Enterprise is supported in a cluster configuration...if SQL 2005, Standard is also supported.

You can run the following to find your the edition of the server you are running...just connect via Query Analyzer to the instance you want to verify and execute:

select SERVERPROPERTY('Edition')

|||Thanks, that was very helpful. We are kicking around upgrade questions. The price for 2005 Enterprise is very much higher than Standard, but because we have 2000 Enterprise we were wondering if we needed that version in 2005 flavor as well. It looks like, with just a dual-node cluster, 2005 Standard fills the functionality that 2000 Enterprise had at least for clustering. Of course we don't get online recovery, online indexing, etc, but at least we could move to SQL 2005 Standard, get similar clustering functionality to what we have now and save $50K. That would take a very big bite out of our budget.
